The Olympic Games are a rare event when experts are actually encouraging parents to let their kids watch lots of TV.
The idea is that there are lots of lessons for kids to learn – especially if parents take the time to watch the coverage with the kids and share the lessons.
Some things to point out to kids include:
- The different sports and their rules.
- The different cultures of the athletes.
- The ideas of competition, effort, winning and losing.
- The importance of inspiration, practice, dedication and sacrifice.
- What makes a good teammate.
- The difference between good and poor sportsmanship. (Washington Post)
