I'm a native Washingtonian - born in Alexandria and raised in Silver Spring. I hardly attended class at John F. Kennedy High School. Was too busy running the school radio station. (The same one I brought in from my bedroom. My parents got sick of all the loud music.) Anyway, 40+ years later, I'm on the air at my favorite hometown station, 97.1 WASH-FM. I'm blessed to be married to a wonderful New Jersey gurl and have two amazing teenagers that keep me busy and happily frustrated. Thanks for reading AND listening!
Unlike most people who live in the DC area...I'm actually FROM here. I was born in Northwest, DC and raised in Vienna, Virginia. I'm first generation Armenian-American. Shortly after graduating from Mary Washington College (now it's University of Mary Washington), I was lucky enough to land a radio gig back in DC. I've worked on the air in this market since 1996, as a news reporter/anchor, morning show side-kick, afternoon personality and traffic reporter.
A little more about my personal interests... I'm a book worm (I've been known to read at least one novel a week). My favorite book is "To Kill a Mockingbird". I'm addicted to "Grey's Anatomy", "Boardwalk Empire", "Game of Thrones", "The Following", "The Americans" and "Breaking Bad"...don't even think about calling me during those shows! My favorite movie of all-time is "Rocky." One of the highlights of my career was interviewing Sylvester Stallone.
After several heartbreaks, I finally met a guy who actually MEANT it when he said "I want to marry you someday." My husband (Don) and I met in December 2007... and got married on May 22nd, 2011. Like me... Don is also a native Washingtonian.
Also: I don't like walking on grates, I'm SUPER competitive, I have a tendency to "sing speak" when I get excited (you may even hear me do it on the air sometimes...LOL). I've become a HUGE Washington Capitals fan since meeting my husband. Oh...and I'm a pop culture junkie. My guilty pleasures are bad reality TV and celebrity gossip.

(Arch Campbell, me, Bob Ryan)
I've had the opportunity to meet and interview a lot of cool celebrities over the years. It was treat talking to Sylvester Stallone about my favorite movie (Rocky)...and I loved my chat with Adele. She was so FUNNY and down-to-earth. However, neither one of those moments measured up to my most recent experience.
For the past five years, legendary entertainment reporter ARCH CAMPBELL has been asking me to be a guest announcer on his TV show at NewsChannel 8. Unfortunately, I was never able to take him up on his offer...until last week. Thanks to my new morning schedule, I was finally able to say YES!
I first met Arch at a movie screening several years ago. I continued to see him at screenings over the years and he was always nice and had kind things to say about my work. I told him I GREW UP watching him on NBC4. He was part of the legendary team at 11pm with Jim Vance, Doreen Gentzler, Bob Ryan and George Michael. If you were raised in the DC area like I was...you know they were the DREAM TEAM. They were CELEBRITIES to me.
When I arrived at the taping of Arch's show last week, I was both excited and nervous to be the guest announcer. I didn't want to screw it up. Arch immediately put me at ease by telling me to just HAVE FUN with it. It's a very "campy" show. The GOOFIER you are, the better...and since "goofy" is my middle name, it worked out well.
As if being on Arch's show wasn't awesome enough, one of the guests he had on was none other than meteorologist BOB RYAN! There I was sharing the TV screen with not one, but TWO broadcasting legends! It was SURREAL...and definitely one of the highlights of my career.
BOB RYAN announced his retirement recently, and his farewell broadcast was LAST NIGHT. I feel lucky to have met him.

When I applied for the co-host position on the morning show a couple of months ago, I turned to the internet for advice/input on how to write an effective RESUME. It had been almost 18-years since I'd written my last one and I was out of touch.
I paid the closest attention to things I SHOULDN'T be doing. The last thing I wanted to do was lose an opportunity over something I said on paper.
Salary.com says these are 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT ON YOUR RESUME:
1. Weird hobbies.
2. Big vocabulary words.
3. Unprofessional-sounding email addresses.
4. Attention-getting tactics.
5. Wild career objectives.

"Dancing With The Stars" may pull and "American Idol" and replace its judging panel next season. There are reports that Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba are on their way out because their contracts are up, while Bruno Tonioli will stick around for next season. A source says nothing has been decided yet, but there will definitely be format changes and it's possible there may be some casting changes.
