Animal lovers should take note of two events this weekend.
The National Zoo's other campus - the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal VA - is hosting its annual Autumn Conservation Festival Saturday and Sunday. This is the only time each year the public is invited inside, and you'll be able to go behind the scenes to meet many endangered species including the red panda, clouded leopard and maned wolf. You can also see bison, kiwis and the Przewalski's horse (the last remaining breed of wild horse). The advance sale of car passes is over. But you can still get a pass as you enter from 10am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday. Here's the link.
Also, the Washington National Cathedral is holding its annual Blessing of the Animals Sunday at 2:30pm. Bring your pet - or adopt one there! Get information here.
Have a wild weekend!
